RIP Janice Grandberry

We are the friends of a beautiful, strong, woman who just passed away. We first met Janice and her son when they became clients of Family Promise of Albuquerque. Janice and her son were guests in our program when they first arrived in Albuquerque. Janice exemplified everything we hope for our guests. She graduated successfully into housing with her son. Through our day center, she became interested in increasing her skills for a better future and decided to return to school.

Even though the next few years were not easy, she remained in school and was determined to finish regardless of any personal situations. Janice was one semester away from graduating with her Associate's Degree from Central New Mexico College (CNM). Janice also stayed involved with Family Promise of Albuquerque to give back for all she gained from her experience here. She became a board member and served on the board for a few years. After, she continued volunteering at the day center and accepted a position here as a Americorp VISTA volunteer in February.

Janice was a valuable member of our team here. She always lifted everyone's spirits with her sense of humor, her beautiful smile and positive attitude. She served as an inspiration and confidant to current guests, other graduates and all of the staff. She was incredibly proud to be part of our mission and give to others. She was a mother figure here to staff and guests and provided encouragement while holding everyone accountable to her personal high standards of standing behind your word.

We will be hosting a memorial for her (time and date to be determined) and we are requesting donations to help with cremation and travel for her family to take her home to Memphis for an official service. Any donation will be greatly appreciated, as we hope to reflect this womans' giving, kind, loving spirit in this difficult time for her family.
