Helping Our Favorite DJ Stay Great

Hi friends, my name is La Keisha Leek. I am a Chicago-based curator and project manager, with a deep interested in creating platforms for black and brown creatives. Chicago, as some of you may be aware of, is going through a bit of a renaissance. There are more spaces for artists to execute experimental ideas, more collective artistic production, and an investment in developing sustainable models for artists to thrive within systems of creative economy. It is an exciting time to be living and working in the city for sure!
This ask is for one of these emerging creatives I speak of, who is ambitious, a visionary, and my dearest friend and champion, DJ Rae Chardonnay. Rae recently took a leap of faith and became a full time DJ and event organizer. Since then the past several months have afforded her to truly walk in her greatness and experience the most exciting successes of her professional journey thus far. She played her first festival, secured her first artist residency, and and was voted Chicago’s Best DJ . Hey now!
This weekend, Rae’s car was broken into. Amongst other items, her laptop and hard drive were stolen, leaving her without the music library that is her lifeline and gospel to so many bodies! This misfortune comes at a time where Rae has significant local and national gigs quickly approaching, and it is critical that she be able replace these items as soon as possible.
With the resurgence of black and brown vitality, has been the push for safe spaces for black joy , one of which Rae is the co-founder. Through this time, Rae remains hopeful. I’d say that is faith and black joy working overtime.
