Lauren's Recovery Fund
Since her surgery Friday morning, she has been progressing very well, and we are so encouraged by Lauren's fierce determination and iron will. She has been out of bed and walking in the last day, and her thoughts have already turned to getting back to work and moving past this horrific event. However, the road ahead will be long and difficult.
The outpouring of love and support for us in the wake of this vile attack has been truly overwhelming. I will never be able to tell all of you just what you have done for our family over these last few days. Words could never do it justice. The family and friends who have devoted their time, energy, sympathy and prayers to us are the reason we are able to remain strong for Lauren, and to us, you are all invaluable.
Lauren has worked every day of her life since she was old enough to do it. She has an incredible mind and is studying to achieve her Masters. She only recently became a homeowner, but that home gave her a sense of pride. She has been a shining example of what it is to stand on your own. Unfortunately, we are learning that sometimes, that isn't enough.
We are starting to get a clearer idea of the costs of surgery and her stay in the ICU, and it is yet another daunting task we have before us. The goal is lofty, but I can not think of a better cause.
If you have a few dollars that aren't working for you right now, please consider donating to help my sister overcome this nightmare she's been dragged into. It's always darkest before the dawn, and it is particularly dark at the moment, but with enough time and love, Lauren will be back. You can knock her down, but with your help, she will always get back up.
Our sincerest thanks to each and every one of you.

Today, I will be officially shutting down the GoFundMe for my recovery, but I wanted to post an update and let everyone know how I'm doing.
First, to each and every one of you that has donated your money, time, energy and prayers to helping my family and me, I can't possibly express the gratitude I feel. The money will be put to great use, but more importantly, the sense of community and love that you've all expressed has been simply overwhelming. It gave me hope in a very dark time and is something I don't think I can ever repay. Hope is something that was in short supply when this happened.
Now it seems silly, not to have hope.
That is what you all have given me. Hope that this isn't going to be a chapter in my life, but a footnote. Hope that with support from my family and friends, I can get back to living my life the way I'm used to. Hope that whenever something senseless like this happens, there will always be people there to lift the victims back up on their feet.
I've never felt more privileged to know so many outstanding people. Thank you all so much.
In the meantime, I've returned to work and my house in Fells Point. My little man, Max, even came home with me at the beginning of the week! Everything is slowly getting back to normal and that is in no small part to all of you.
Thanks again to everyone. I am in your debt and will never forget what you have showed me about the awesome power of love and community.
First and foremost, this campaign has been a top to bottom success thus far, and the only way we could have achieved so much of our goal is through the kindness and generosity shown by each and every one of you!
I thought you all would be very pleased to know that Lauren's attacker, Mr. Kurt Fletcher, has been arrested and is in custody awaiting interrogation! After that, he will go to trial and hopefully be locked away for a long time. We have been eagerly awaiting this news, to say the least.
Lauren continues to recover incredibly well, and sends her love and thanks. She even has a phone again! So anyone that wishes to reach out to her directly can feel free to do so.
On top of all of this good news, we are now within striking distance of our goal to raise $50,000 to help Lauren get back on her feet! Please keep checking back for more updates, and I would also like to invite everyone to An Poitin Stil for a benefit brunch starting at 10am on Sunday, August 14. There will be raffles, a silent auction and door prizes aplenty! If you would like to attend and receive 15% off from your meal, just save the attached flier to your phone and show your server when you arrive!
Thanks again for all the support. It has been a long couple of weeks, but we are finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.
Lauren is home!!! She was officially discharged from the ICU yesterday and has settled in nicely. She won't be running a marathon any time soon, but she is resting, and regaining her old strength, Slowly but surely is the name of the game right now.
We are touched by the amount of donations that have been flooding in since this page was set up. Lauren truly has some of the best friends and family she could ask for and everything you have given is being counted as a blessing.
The good news is that after talking with Lauren's insurance provider, we can safely lower the goal! Our main concern is still the medical bills, but after speaking with her provider, we are looking towards the future and payments on her mortgage.
I just wanted to keep everyone up to date on what's happening and where all of your donations will be going. Thank you all so much for your continued support!
I, too, was brutally attacked in Fells Point 26 years ago and left with two broken legs and numerous other injuries one week before my wedding. My advice is to look for and focus on all the positives that can, and do, come from all this senseless violence.
I am sure that it has been mentioned to your family but if not, please assist her with applying for Victim's Assistance through the city and state victim's assistance fund. It is not a fortune but every little bit helps. My prayers for a full recovery and the hand of GOD upon her life as she walks this battle.
