Ed, who was paralyzed in ninth grade from a football injury 29 years ago, is an amazing young man with a positive attitude. He never asks for much but he now has a situation where he needs his "lifeline", his wheel chair, to be fixed. He has not gotten any cooperation from his insurance resources and he has been bedridden for over five months because he has been caught up in the red tape of trying to get his wheel chair repaired. We are asking family and friends if they would be willing to help pay the expenses of repairing his wheel chair ($4995.00). We want to get Ed out of his bed and back in motion in his wheelchair. A donor has already put a deposit down to order the parts needed. If you would like to help Ed, please donate through this page.   The Barkman Family is setting up an Ed Washington Fund.  Ron Barkman, UHS '91, will be the only person responsible for, and able to access the money raised on Ed's behalf.  God bless you and thank you for your prayers and support.

Hello,
It was nearly 2 years ago when I set up this fund on behalf of Ed Washington. Your outpouring of support and generosity were overwhelming. You helped Ed not only get his wheelchair fixed, but with the additional funds, he was able to purchase a handicapped accessible van.
Ed is in need of help again. He has struggled financially for a long time now. Unfortunately, his medical costs consistently outweigh what comes in through his medicare support. His daily medical needs are great and his resources are not.
We are looking at setting up some type of fundraiser on an annual basis to help defray his costs now and for his future. This will take some time to organize. In the meantime, if you are willing and able to help Ed, please consider donating at this time. Ron Barkman and his parents generously donate their time and love to helping care for Ed, spending time with him, and managing his finances.
Thank you for taking the time to read and/or share Ed's story. If you are interested in helping set up an annual fundraiser for Ed, please let me know.
Appreciatively,
Mandi

Good morning, great morning!!!! Ed's chair is fixed and he is out of bed, outside, and enjoying being on the move after 8 months in bed. Mr. Barkman and Mrs. Barkman visited Ed yesterday and recorded a video of Ed which he would like all of you to see. Enjoy and please send the video along to all those who contributed with thoughts, prayers, and donations!

Ed has been a very special part of my family's lives. Ronnie and my family were there the day Ed was injured and he has been a part of our lives ever since. We are so deeply touched to see the amazing generosity you have shown Ed. The money collected will be used to fund Ed's wheelchair repair and any other medical expenses that Ed will incur. God bless you for your kindness and support for Ed.
