Fund New OMBS Workshop for Research

The most important improvement we have made at the OMBS in the last 30 or more years is the construction of the new shop. Graduate students, faculty, and other researchers frequently need to build a piece of equipment or repair an item while in the field. The shop provides that capability, with wood-working equipment, and capability to fabricate items from wood, metal, pvc, and many other materials. The benches allow for lay-out and work space for a wide variety of projects. We maintain an inventory of the common nails, bolts, screws, electrical supplies, glue, rope, etc. in order to avoid the 1 1/5 hour, 50+ mile round trip into town to buy what is needed for the essential piece of equipment. Time saved here is more time available in the field. Also, if a class decides to improvise a tool or measuring device for a class project, the shop enables them to improvise and provide what is needed to do the project. This can be a great learning experience. OMBS staff make use of the shop for repairs of equipment and for needed maintenance of the OMBS buildings and grounds so the Station can continue our mission. While most of the labor and materials to build out the interior of the shop have been donated by our supporters, the mortgage from the bank needs funding from those who want to be a part of our mission. This appeal is to help pay off the short-term loan. To pay off the entire loan we will need $32,709. We have already made three annual payments of approximately $6,000 each. We do not have extra funds for the two remaining annual payments of the loan.
