Rebuild Fire-Destroyed Historic Gym
We are a small, rural community in southern Indiana. Tragically, on July 19, 2016 our beloved historic gymnasium was destroyed by fire. Our gym was built in 1936 with Works Projects Administration (WPA) funding and maintained through endless hours of volunteer service by members of our community.
Our cherished facility is more than a gym -- it is the heart and soul of our community. It is a community center, a wedding hall, a home for Cub Scout troop 343 and much, much more. In our small town, the gym serves all of us. It is where we come together to listen, to offer a helping hand and to celebrate each other and our community.
We are committed to rebuilding at the site of our lost gymnasium. We have a limited amount of insurance money for the facility -- much of which will be used for clean up and debris removal. The resources available will fall far short of the funding needed to rebuild a facility.
We are a resilient community, but we need your help. Our identity is tied to our small close-knit community and our facility is at the heart of it all. All funds received will be used to rebuild.
Prayerfully consider dontaing any amount - no matter how small. Together we will rebuild.
Mark Baker Vice Chairman, Gayle Kimmel Sec.,
Other members are Jack Armstrong, Doug Kelley, Bob Phillips and Denny Godsey. Our treasurer Is Delores Baker non board member. We are in the process of creating an account in which all funds will be deposited to be used solely for gym restoration. We would also like to thank all those who helped, donated and attended the "Dinner in the Park".
We raised around $5,400.00 dollars that evening and more has come in since then. Please understand, we have a long way to go and a lot of hard work to do before we can once again meet in OUR gym.
would love to see if even part of this building could be saved.....so much history, it has touched so many lives......not only is the building a wonderful piece of Springville history, it represents what Springville is about, friends, family and love of our community......
Good! I know other people were wondering too!
Sarah, Kim is the daughter of Jack Armstrong. I ask her to create the go fund me page for us. She put a lot of work in to benefit Springville. She has it set up so only I can withdraw the funds. She is a very kind and sweet person and totally trust worthy. .....Dennys Godsey
Sarah thanks for asking. I would hate for people to not donate because of that. I certainly questioned it myself.
I'm not trying to be rude but how do we know the money is going to the right place when it says the creator is in Virginia?
