Lego Writing For 1st Graders

My name is Amanda Beavers and I am a 1st grade teacher in Petaluma CA.
For the last two years, I have had the incredible opportunity to participate in a Lego Education Symposium (that allows educators opportunities to view different Lego products that can be used for learning).
One product available is Lego Story Starters. The sole purpose of the Lego sets is to allow students to use their imagination to plan stories, problem solve, and collaborate with their peers. This product encourages and engages the first graders to put their ideas onto paper by providing creative confidence and the ability to make their writing come to life from a source they are familiar and comfortable using.
Last year, I was able to purchase 2 of these sets to use in small group centers once a week. After a positive and magical impact, I would love to expand and be able to use the sets whole group in multiple curricular areas.
For $750 I would be able to buy the core sets needed for my whole class to use them during writing as well as social studies.
For $975 I would be able to buy the core sets mentioned above as well as the expansion set needed to support response to literature and comprehension.
For $1200 I would be able to buy all of the sets mentioned above as well as the expansion set needed to support science.
Beyond the above mentioned curricular areas, the sets also support social problem solving, mathematical story problems, critical thinking and team building.
If this project is funded, my students this year and beyond will have the opportunity to use Lego's multiple times throughout the week to build academics, imagination, and creativity.
With your help, I can continue to make learning fun while also helping my students become successful and confident writers/learners.
I will keep the campaign open until 12/30/16. Any funds received will be applied to the applicable package.
