Chilkat Valley Preschool Facility

Please help us secure this challenge donation and help strengthen our foundation request by making a donation today! YOUR DONATION WILL BE MATCHED DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR to create a place where teachers, families and community members come together to support our youngest learners as well as our elders. Chilkat Valley Preschool is working with Haines seniors and the Haines Borough to build an addition to the existing Senior Center building that will house the Chilkat Valley Preschool program for many years to come. 

This is an exciting collaboration that brings two important community groups together in one expanded location that will allow seniors and young children to interact and learn from each other on a regular basis. A win-win “solution for everyone.”

Thanks to the generosity of people like you, more than 50% of the project cost has already been raised. We have a foundation grant pending, and right now, through August 31st, we have an anonymous 1:1 challenge donation for $20,000. We have already raised $5000 towards that goal! Need for project: Chilkat Valley Preschool is a stable and thriving program that brings joy, creative play and innovative preschool education to children of the Chilkat Valley. CVP’s current facility is the borough-owned building, where the preschool has operated its program for the past 40 years. The Borough will be disposing  the building in June 2017 which will leave the Chilkat Valley Preschool homeless at the end of the 2016 school year. Together with the local Headstart Program, Chilkat Valley Preschool supports and serves the many young families in Haines. The Head Start program administered by Rural Cap is a federally funded program that serves about 50% of the preschool population in Haines. The Head Start program does not have the capacity to expand to serve additional students and they have eligibility criteria that not all families meet. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the Chilkat Valley Preschool to secure this dedicated space and continue to provide  early childhood education for all families in Haines.
