Dundas Coalition 4 Refugee Support

ABOUT US

We are the Dundas Coalition for Refugee Support, a group of residents in North and South Dundas. Our community has a storied history of helping those in need.

Our primary goal is to help a Syrian refugee family settle in our rural region.

Our efforts are currently focused on preparing the refugee application and fundraising. We hope to have our family arrive this year or early 2017.  We will then focus our efforts to help them settle in the Winchester area and become successful Canadians.

OUR FAMILY

We have already identified a refugee family of five with a rural background  whom we believe will integrate well in the Dundas county area.

They fled their home in Syria in 2013 and have been living in temporary accomodations ever since.

To respect the privacy and safety of "our" family, we feel it is prudent not to publish any personal information on-line, but donors will receive period updates should you request to join our mailing list.

OUR PLAN

With the exact timeline for arrival unknown, we have secured an initial house for our family to reside in Winchester until permanent accommodations can be found.

We have partnered with the House of Lazarus to offer furniture, clothing, and household goods for the family.

Volunteers have stepped forward to assist with language training, health care, education, transportation, and employment assistance.

We are now approaching service clubs, businesses, and residents to fundraise and support our family for a 1-year period. As a valued donor you will receive periodic newsletters and updates on our fundraising e orts and on our family once they arrive in Dundas County.

WHERE YOUR FUNDS WILL HELP

Citizenship and Immigration Canada suggests that refugee sponsors have $27,000 for a family of four for one year after their arrival. This includes housing rent and utilities, clothing, food, school start-up costs, and incidentals. Your donations will go to fund these items directly.

Dundas County residents have already stepped forward to offer temporary housing and provide many in-kind services and donations to bridge the funds required.
