Matthew Angel's Eagle Scout Project
Donation protected
My name is Matthew Angel and I am a member of Boy Scout Troop 50, Montreat, North Carolina. I have been a member of the Boy Scouts since first grade when I joined as a “Tiger Cub” and now, ten years later, I am working towards achieving the highest rank of Eagle Scout.
In order to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, I must complete a service project that has a long-lasting impact on the community. For my project, I have chosen to install a weather station at Black Mountain Elementary School.
I will actually be installing two weather stations at the school; one that is hands-on, and one that is digital. Students will retrieve data from the hands-on weather station and upload it to CoCoRaHS.com, and data from the digital weather station will automatically be transmitted to WUnderground.com.
My project is needed because students often struggle to understand weather. It is very beneficial for them to be able to have a hands-on experience with weather and how it works. Students will retrieve data from the weather station as well as see the weather nationwide by looking at a live map on Weather Underground. Students will be able to see their own weather, transmitted from their weather station, on the map. This will thoroughly immerse them in their learning and heavily assist teachers in teaching them weather. The Fifth Grade EOG is the first end of course test to feature science as a topic. Not only will my project be a fun and immersive learning tool, but it will also help to raise test scores.
Money raised will go toward the weather stations, a telescoping pole to mount the digital weather station on, a wooden pole to mount the CoCoRaHS weather station on, concrete, and other construction supplies.
Any excess funds raised will go to the Black Mountain Elementary School PTO to cover any future costs of the project. Thank you all for your help, without you this project could never be made a reality!
