GVN-C FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP FUND

INTRODUCTION: It is very difficult for youth in Eudora Arkansas to escape the generations-old cycle of poverty <> minimal education <> underemployment. This campaign is focused on breaking that cycle and turning the tide for some of the successful, promising high school students of Eudora with essential, but limited financial support.

PURPOSE: The Georgia Virginia Nichols-Campbell Foundation (GVN-C) raises funds to provide financial support to students who are graduates of Lake Side High School and residents of Eudora, Arkansas. The selection of the students and the amount of the support is administered by UABP based on the students need, and is determined after acceptance as an undergraduate. The cost of one year at UAPB is approximately $6,000.

GOAL: The Foundation’s goal is to help at least five students ‘jumpstart’ their academic career by providing financial support of UP TO a full first year, and applied as determined by the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff toward tuition, room and board and books as necessary. So we have set our goal at $30,000. Funds that are not awarded due to fewer accepted students will roll over to the next year for the next cohort of students from Eudora.

BACKGROUND: The GVN-C. Foundation carries on the life work of Mrs. Georgia Virginia Nichols-Campbell who was an educator for the Eudora, Arkansas and Chicago, Illinois public school systems. Mrs. Campbell often witnessed the disappointments of students who wanted to continue their educational pursuits beyond high school but were without the financial means to do so. As a tribute, the Foundation provides financial support for the first year at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). The only criteria that the Foundation places on UAPB’s selection of students for financial support is, the student must have graduated from Lake Side High School, are residents of Eurdora, AR., Mrs. Campbell’s hometown, and accepted and enrolled at UAPB beginning as a freshman.

Since 1997 the Foundation has awarded twenty-two, four-year tuition scholarship to Eudora's youth and demonstrated its commitment to moving those she loved towards greatness. "The GVN-C Foundation is a role-model for small-town America" -Congressman Danny K. Davis
