My name is Victor Minetola and I am raising money for my sister, Lisa (Minetola) Meredith.
She was diagnosed with Stage IIb invasive ductal carcinoma (breast cancer) this past winter. They found a 6 cm mass in her right breast and a 3 cm lymph node metastasis under her right armpit. Thankfully, there were no signs of cancer anywhere else in her body, and the masses had not attached to her skin or other systems. While it is a fast growing cancer, the doctors are very hopeful for her treatment and have even said the word "cure." However, the costs from high deductibles in her previous coverage and now a gap in coverage is making it difficult to manage paying for the necessary treatment.
She had 8 weeks of AC chemo and is midway through 12 weeks of Taxol. When that ends, she will have a double mastectomy and a lymphadenectomy on the right side. That will be followed by 6–8 weeks of radiation and, finally, reconstruction.
They have already incurred $16,000 in out-of-pocket costs with their previous insurance, and they are now in a two-month period of having no insurance before being able to get new and better coverage through her husband's work.
She will use the money raised to help cover what they have already paid out of pocket and to help cover her chemo, doctor visits, blood draws and more over the next couple of months. Anything we raise above what they need will be donated to local cancer research or someone else's medical cost GoFundMe.
As many of you know, the physical turmoil of fighting cancer is tough enough. Any help you can offer will help lessen the load and take a major burden off their shoulders.
