Morgan's Memorial Fund

Donation protected
UPDATE: As many of you know, Morgan passed away peacefully in the hospital on July 11, 2016 after 3-weeks in the hospital due to complications with his collapsed lung.

We are thankful to have found out that he will be able to help over 50 people through the organ donor program. I have some comfort knowing that some of Morgan will live on and he continued to help people even after he died.

After struggling with what to do, and after talking with friends and family, I will be leaving the campaign up and updating it to a memorial fund to help towards funeral and medical expenses.

If you have any questions or concerns about the change of the campaign, please let me know.

Thank you, again, for supporting Morgan. And for continuing to show so much love to our family while we grieve for our husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend.

Much love and aloha,
Laura

Our original GoFundMe Campaign request:
Morgan's Double Lung Transplant

This is my husband, Morgan.

We have been together for over 25 years, have 2 fabulous children together...and we are fighting IPF. (http://www.uwhealth.org/thoracic-surgery/pulmonary-fibrosis-pf/11359)

Morgan was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis a couple of  years ago. We've tried everything we could to slow the hardening and scarring of his lungs, but this disease can not be stopped or killed.

It is slowly taking his breath away...and his life.

In fact, he has been in the hospital for the past 2-weeks fighting a collapsed lung that just won't mend. Three different chest tubes, 2 weeks, 4 teams of doctors - all while plugged into the wall for suction of air out of his lung to keep them expanded and oxygen in his nose to keep him alive.

New FDA-approved drugs were supposed to help to slow the progression of the disease, but it keeps killing him - breath-by-breath. So, it is now time to get him on the transplant list for a double lung transplant. Costs for this type of transplant go upwards of $800,000 - just for the transplant proceedure.

Thankfully, we have insurance that will help with a lot of that cost, but it is for what insurance does NOT cover that I started this GoFundMe. Insurance does not pay for things like the 24/7 care Morgan will need after his transplant. I will be able to provide some of that care, of course. But care givers need breaks (time to sleep and shower) and I will need to be able to spend time with the kids to help keep the family strong.

We are a small family, our extended family is very extended and scattered around the US. But we are strong...and we need you as a part of our family now.

Morgan's chances for a full recovery after the transplant are great. He is healthy in every other way - all the tests that have been done prove that.

          I need him to live.
Our 14-year-old son needs him to live.
Our 5-year-old daughter needs him to live.
His entire family needs him to live...

Our hope is that he is gifted with lungs soon after being accepted into the transplant program. However, it could be months, or years, before a match becomes available.

For those that know me, you know that it has always been difficult for me to ask for help. Our case manager at the insurance company suggested starting this account for him. So, today I'm asking...BEGGING for it. My best friend, my husband, the father of my children, my co-pilot, DJ, chef...my heart, my world, my everything...may be taken away from his family too soon - so I'm asking:

          Please help if you can.

Your help means the world to me (and my family). Thank you - for taking the time to visit this page and reading our story, for sending good thoughts and prayers and for donating to help provide the care Morgan needs and deserves.

With warmth and love,
Laura
