Commission to Stop Police Brutality

$50 of $750,000 goal

The National Black Church Initiative is setting up a Commission on Police Brutality to investigate the police who are involved in the controversial shootings of African American males and females. Too often we take the word of the US Attorney's Office, the District Attorney's Office and the police. It has become evident that we can no longer take their word and that we must set up a commission in every city where there has been a shooting so that we can look at the evidence and come up with our own conclusions on what has happened and the merits of the case.

In no way will we violate the law, we will only deal with evidence that we have dug up and that is in the public domain. We will also make known the background of any police officer who is accused of this crime. We believe that there are many police officers who have a history of abuse and we want to be able to call them out. Their background has a lot to do with why they are in this situation. This is why we must investigate their background to look for any link between their background abuse and the situation they currently find themselves in. We need the money to pay for investigators as well as administrative staff, webmasters and other related materials and personnel to be able to share this information on a timely basis. Remember this is not one Commission it will be multiple Commissions staffed by citizens in those cities, set up in the same area where the shooting took place. In the words of the late Johnny Cochran, “we must police the police.”

If we find additional evidence we will turn it over to the local District Attorney, the US Attorney and the US Attorney General for further review. We will also post it online.

The National Black Church Initiative Stands With the NFL And The NBA To Protest Police Brutality In Support Of Colin Kaepernick

We support the NFL and NBA players in their protest against racism and police brutality. NBCI also believes that the President intentionally confuses the debate around patriotism, this has nothing to do with patriotism.

Racism is as common as apple pie and baseball in America as Malcom would say: Kaepernick should be commended for his courageous stance against racism and has demonstrated protests in the finest sense of being an American. We are glad to see that Black players are supporting Black players. This is very important.

The National Black Church Initiative Stands with Black Lives Matter, Calls Sheriff David Clarke’s Remarks Hateful

He forgot he was Black

Washington, DC – The National Black Church Initiative (NBCI), a faith-based coalition of 34,000 churches comprised of 15 denominations and 15.7 million African Americans, stands with Black Lives Matter in this continuous struggle against police brutality and equal justice and first Amendment Rights. Sheriff David Clarke’s remarks, even though they are from a Black man, are hateful and offensive in turn to Black people who refuse to allow themselves to be shot down like dogs by the police. The Church will not stand for anyone to minimize our right to peaceful protest and to exercise our Rights under the First Amendment to say and stand for what we believe. It is both hurtful and hateful in the eyes of the Church to know that one of its own, namely Sheriff David Clarke, who the Black Church has nurtured, is willing to use armed police force to stop Black people from exercising our Constitutional Rights which his grandfather and grandmother died to uphold. What a moral hypocrite he is.

Rev. Anthony Evans, President of the National Black Church Initiative says, “We have one message for Sheriff Clarke, we do not care whether you have a badge, you are Black and you are bad. This will never stop us from calling and protesting the White police who systematically murder, even on video tape, our sons and daughters. When you oppose organizations like Black Lives Matter you oppose the entire Black Church. We are prepared to meet your police force with the moral force of indignation and the power of God. In my community they call this an Uncle Tom with a badge.”

This is how far we have come as Black people when we are being opposed by one of our own under the color of blue and the threat to usurp our Right to peacefully assemble and exercise our free speech because we dare to speak truth to power. We will never let the racist, white, murderous cops get away with murder. Any cop, including Sheriff David Clarke that tries to stop Black Lives Matter or any of God’s children will get the full force of the Black Church, therefore we condemn in the strongest possible terms used under the English language his brutal tactics of trying to be the White man’s Negro by opposing Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Jesus’ children.
