We Want a Baby Fihn!

*inhale* *exhale*

This is hard to do, but here we go.  Many of you have asked us when we will be starting a family, and been met with vague mumblings, jokes, or outright aggression (Sorry, Mark).  Well, the thing is Quinn and I have been wanting a baby- very much.  Maybe even two.  Could be twins actually, because we have tried the “natural way” for over a year and a half.  And we have tried helping nature along with three rounds of intrauterine insemination, and now we have reached the pinnacle of science and nature, as well as our last resort...IVF.

We have committed to In Vitro Fertilization this September after trying one final round of insemination.  We aren’t sure exactly why this is happening to us.  We spent the majority of our eight years together *preventing* this very thing from happening too soon.  We got jobs, we moved, we bought a house, we got some dogs, we got married- we never expected to have any difficulty conceiving when the time was right.  There is no guarantee that this will work, but our doctor believes we are perfect candidates for this therapy and that this is the best chance of us bringing home a baby of our own.

We know it isn’t a sure thing...people we know have gone through the same pain of wanting and wishing and trying that we have been experiencing for the last two years.  But, we have to believe that we can experience the gift of having a child that is ours.  We may not be the most worthy, the most perfect, the most whatever; but we know we can provide a loving and stable home.

The money we are asking for is a lot. It is about half the total cost of medications, monitoring, egg retrieval, fertilization of said eggs by an embryologist, implantation by a doctor back into Quinn’s body, and then freezing and storing the rest of the fertilized eggs. We are so incredibly lucky to have families that have banded together to support us, and we have both taken on second (and third, and fourth) jobs to build up our savings--but the remaining amount is not a negligible sum for us.

It feels weird doing this, writing this.  Asking for money- especially for something like this feels all kinds of weird, but we can’t do it alone.  We deliberated long and hard before putting this together and we thought: who better to reach out to than the community that will be surrounding our baby in the future?


We have spent the past two years working on ourselves, and our partnership- preparing our hearts and minds for the struggle and joy a baby brings, trying not to let the heartache that every single month has brought us break our faith that we will have a child of our own someday.

We know we can’t pay you back for your generosity in any way other than promising to try and bring a positive, conscious being into a world that could use him/her/them.  While we can’t auction off naming rights to the highest bidder (although we considered it!), we do promise to let you come feast your eyes on what will be the cutest, fattest lil nugget in all of the land...(sorry friends with babies, thats real tho.)
