Culley's Kitchen

Donation protected
To support the Oothoudt family, during a very difficult time, this gofundme account is to help supply meals to the family. Sometimes one or both parents are with Cully at his therapy or cancer treatments making meal time a second thought. When they are home it is challenging to keep healthy meals on the table for the family. The funds will go directly to purchasing meals from a company called Power Plate Meals that provides healthy meals, made fresh ready to be heated or cooked from frozen.

Anything we receive over the cost of food will be used to  help pay travel and hotel expenses while they have been in Mayo, Rochester or Fargo, Sanford.

Cully is being treated for medulloblastoma which is also being complicated by seizures.

[10/6/16 Caringbridge entry]
We got home from Mayo yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) and got to enjoy one night in our own bed. Today was supposed to be a day to catch up on things around the house, but those plans can change quickly. Cully started throwing up, which is very typical, but he also wasn't eating or drinking and he's not able to complete sentences. He mumbles and can't find the words. He pointed to the garage then the van. Since we had no other plans I loaded him up and we just drove. We were over in Bismarck anyway so I figured if he's vomiting and not eating and not drinking I'm going to take him in for fluids. We have a standing order for fluids so I wanted to have that done so he didn't get dehydrated. When they heard his speech they ordered a CT scan. The scan showed slightly enlarged ventricles of the brain, but not so much that it should be causing problems. If they had been quite large they would've flown us down to Mayo to put in a shunt. They admitted him and increased his dose of steroids. They're going to see how he is tomorrow and if he's not better they may still send us down for the shunt.

He is probably having speech issues and short-term memory loss because of the extent of the disease on the front of the brain. We need to get chemo going ASAP, but he can't start it until his incisions have had a little time to heal. A shunt would delay chemo further so we pray it's not necessary. That and we really don't want to go back to Rochester this soon. One day home is not nearly enough time home with our kids.
