Watering TCKid's Roots

With the humble beginnings out of a global but tight-knit online gathering of Third Culture Kids (TCK's) that came together over a period of two years, Brice Royer created TCKid as a broader-reaching social networking platform to to help TCKs connect and find a sense of belonging in 2008. Since then, it has become a community and family that has kept on growing and playing a large role in the how TCK's come to learn more about their identity.
Each time I see new faces or new friendships develop on TCKid, it reminds me of the special time I discovered TCKid, and how that special discovery helped open up skills and gifts in me that were unidentified or disjointed until I realized I was a TCK. The movement that grew out of this early community of TCK's is still very passionate and has an expanding horizon to look forward to.
On a solemn note, I also remember hearing the story of one potential member one of our TCKid local groups had just begun to outreach to who committed suicide. It devastated me, knowing how the TCK's unresolved grief issues can often play a role in the tendency towards depression and other risk factors of suicide. This gave me the deeper push for pursuing TCKid's horizons.

October 2013 update - Fundraising efforts will now focus on gathering resources to redesign TCKid's website to better deliver information and resources to both the TCK community and the non-TCK/ general public through multi-media projects. The 501(c)(3) application was submitted on August 2 and was expected to be processed by the end of October, 2013. Due to the partial government shutdown in the U.S., the estimated time for completion may extend towards the end of November. TCKid will then have a different page for fundraising with its 501c3 status.
Original goal - Contributing to this fund will provide TCKid's registered nonprofit status with the 501(c)(3) documentation. Once approved, TCKid's 501(c)(3) designation will be recognized starting Dec 2011*, when it was registered in the state of Texas and the IRS as a nonprofit entity. All donations since then will be recognized by the US IRS as tax-deducible. TCKid is just one application and $400 in applicable fees away from nonprofit status with 501(c)(3) recognition, which allows donations to be considered tax-deductible and qualify TCKid for corporate, private and government grants as well as other fundraising opportunities that require it.
Contributing to this fund will help TCKid expand its branches of services and programs, including activities that will be hosted by the local groups that you may already be involved with. (--Please do not submit donations to local group staff directly, but through this fund/ other fundraising campaigns announced by TCKid management in the future--).

About TCKid:
TCKid: A Home for Third Culture Kids and Adults TCKid is a registered non-profit organization that serves as an active global community of Third Culture Kid (TCK) adults and youth across geographical boundaries.
In existence now since 2008, when Brice Royer created this social network platform for a community of TCK's that started to come together in 2006, TCKid has grown to include local chapters around the world in addition to its central virtual community. We have been featured on the BBC, ABC News, The Telegraph, the U.S Department of Defense and Education Week.
TCKid's mission is to increase and support the individual and general awareness of the TCK experience and unique gifts by facilitating connection and community engagement.
Our new vision is to:
1. Provide comprehensive resources to help increase the understanding of the TCK experience and common challenges.
2. Celebrate the unique experiences of TCK's while fostering a sense of community, self-expression, dialogue, and peer-support. and
3. Support the discovery of unique skills and talents related to the TCK experience and facilitate opportunities for expressing or applying them in various sectors of the community.
For those who aren't sure what a TCK is, here is the definition: "A third culture kid is a person who has spent a significant part of his or her developmental years outside their parents' passport culture(s)."
The experience includes "frequently build(ing) relationships to all of the cultures, while not having full ownership in any. Although elements from each culture may be assimilated into the TCK's life experience, the sense of belonging is in relationship to others of similar background."
