I am asking for all to come together and help make a difference for a special person in his time of need.
This special person is David Amalfitano who is in dire need of a kidney.  He is a single father to a daughter and twin sons.  He has worked until he could'nt anymore because of complications from his disease PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) which at that time he was collecting disability benefits from his former employer.  His benefits have come to a end as he continues to push through everyday waiting for a kidney.  This now effects his health insurance along with money to live and support his children.  He must have insurance in order for the glorious day he receives the call that they have a kidney.  Right now he is on Hemodialysis which is a very aggressive treatment with a surgery pending.  Dave needs $5,000.00 just to keep his insurance for the next year let alone money to keep his family a float.  He is in the process of applying for Social Security Benefits, although if anyone has ever applied for disability before it can be a painfully long wait.  Please help in anyway you can no donation is to small.  This loving father needs your help NOW.
Also, if anyone is interested in giving the gift of life please contact:
University of Maryland Living Donor Program
410-328-5408 or toll free 800=492-5538 Ext.5408
This disease has already taken his father from him please do not let it take him away from his children.
My name is Nancy Oakes, I have known this man since he was a child and he has always been family to me.
I am forever grateful.

So sorry to hear this. I believe I worked with his father at Bissell. He was an awesome guy. Just curious, has a motorcycle benefit run been organized for David? It's a great way to raise funds.

I just read your story in The Electrical Worker. When I met my wife 35 years ago she told me that she had PKD and would be possibly needing a kidney in the future. In 2012 she was put on our local list. Though rejected four times by various hospitals I as able to change my diet, reduce my weight, have my APNEA treated and on June 26th, 2014 was able to donate one of my kidney's to her. Twice a year we travel to NYC, where the transplant was performed for a checkup. Of course you know how everything shows up in the bloodwork. Just the other day, on Wednesday her last creatine level was .70, 3.5 years after the transplant. I'm a Chief Line Mechanic for National Grid in Buffalo NY and if I didn't know I had one kidney I wouldn't know I had only one. I'm happy things turned out allright with that Ultruistic donor of yours. Stay positive and take care of those three children. Merry Christmas and keep drinking plenty of water. Kidney's like to be hydrated.
