The Harmon Academy is coming up on it's 2016-2017 school year! *

Our grades this fall:
Vegas ~ 9th
Elvis ~ 4th
Axel ~ 1st
America ~ PreK

First of all, we want to thank you so much for all the wonderful support we received last year from our friends and family. You made it possible to buy many of our books, purchase a school computer, and pay for music lessons. Many of you were generous in supplies, and materials for us to use, as well as lending books from your own libraries for our use. We would not have had the great year of school that we did, without you. As this year draws to a close, I am planning out next year.

Our family is growing, for those of you who don't already know, we are expecting a baby girl at the end of the summer. This means a few things, besides the obvious transition from four to five kids. First, we well be starting our school year early, to get into a routine before she gets here, so that we don't end up doing nothing all fall. Second, I will need to be on it as far as having everything ready to go by mid August. Third, the materials we buy need to be as ready to use as possible. In the past I have used free pdfs, and copied books from previous years. This year, I anticipate that even the small amount of time it takes to do those things will not be available to me, and I will need to actually have real books on hand.

We have experienced a few other changes as well. Vegas has auditioned for the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association, and has been invited to play with the PYCO, the Portland Youth Conservatory Orchestra. This is a great opportunity for him, and we are super excited to see where it takes him. There are costs involved to join, no more than paying for private lessons all year, but it is all one big payment at the beginning of the season. There will undoubtedly be instrument upkeep, books, and formal wear to procure as well.

Having more kids in formal school this year also means more paper, more pencils, and more general supplies. We would love to have a kindle or ipad for reading and some videos. We would also love to update Elvis's drum set and get the music studio set up for productive use. There is no end to the things that can be done, but we also realize that we have limited income, and so does pretty much everyone we know. If you have any inclination to support us with enough to buy a book or two, or offset some of our larger costs, we would be so thankful. I appreciate you taking the time to read this post, and even more, am so grateful for our wonderful support network of friends and family that have made our school journey such a fun trip so far!

With all sincerity, The Harmon Academy

Shelley, Vegas, Elvis, Axel, and Meri
