Starting a New Career in Mikawa

I'm not the type of person to usually ask for help, but I've done everything in my power to raise money on my own. Unfortunately, I'm beginning to think that it won't be enough to survive my first month there.
This year, I accepted a position in the Japanese Exchange and Teaching Program as an ALT (an Assistant Language Teacher). At the end of July, I'll be starting a new career and a new life in Mikawa, a quaint little town in the Yamagata prefecture of Japan. I'll be using my love of language to teach at a junior high and several elementary schools in the area. It's my first real job and a big leap from college life, but I'm ready to step out on my own and explore the world.
Unfortunately, being an adult costs a lot more money than I ever could have imagined. My contacts in the JET Program recommended that I bring around 250,000 yen (about 2,500 USD) for my first month there to cover the cost of my apartment, transportation, a phone, groceries, and other necessities. I've spent the entirety of my summer break working hard at a little French restaurant and selling many of my books; I'll reach my goal of $2,500 easily, but some unforeseen fees have put me in a bit of a bind. Apartment and transportation costs alone will eat almost 80% of my funds upon arrival. I'm hoping to raise a little bit more to make my transition during the first month stress free. After I receive my first pay check and get the inital big fees out of the way, I shouldn't have any trouble.
