Send Rob to Philly as a Delegate

I have been a committed supporter of Bernie Sanders for years at this point. My father and I went to see him speak in Fort Wayne at the state AFL-CIO convention  a few years back, his very first tip to Indiana. I was on board from that point.

I am the Chair of Indiana's largest and most active Democracy for America affiliate, called Democracy for Monroe County. This group has been an active progressive organization for 12 years in Bloomington.
I am committed to Bernie's vision of where the country needs to go, starting first with removing the the near total control of our political process from corporate special interests. I worked to help pass resolutions against Citizens United in our city council and county council here in this area.   I was a founding member of the local JOBS with Justice Coalition.

This is my chance to network with progressives nationwide and especially statewide with the Indiana delegation of Bernie Sanders delegates. We had a DFA Caucus at the Democratic State Convention, that I see as just the begining of a process to start creating a statewide progressive coalition that is needed in Indiana, desperately.  I grew up watching my father in Indiana be a very influential progressive in state politics. We have to keep the Bernie coalition together in Indiana. We need to bring together groups that are not used to working together like labor and the environmental activists to not only make our Republican establishment take note of us but, also to put Democrats on notice that our strategy of running Republican light as a strategy is not working. Our goal at the Democracy for Monroe County has been to find progressives and encourage them to run for office and has been for years. Senator Sanders is encouraging us to do this. It can be done as DFMC has been doing this for years, we have the most progressive city council in Indiana without question. We cannot take total credit for that but, the rest of Indiana could learn from what happens in Bloomington.

I ,also,  would very much like to make sure that the Democratic Platform go on record as being for single payer healthcare. I work in the insurance industry and am certain that the ACA reforms that have taken place are still leaving a large number of Americans as vulnerable. We are still putting people in policies with large deductibles that leave people reluctant to seek treatment due to cost. I lost a very close relative in February to a stroke at the age of 34. Leaving behind a young children and a wife, it was a preventable tragedy.   People are still dying from our current system. It is a personal and deeply moral issue to me. I believe fevently that Americans deserve a Medicare for all system that leaves nobody behind. I am not sure we can still accomplish this for this convention but, it is certainly something that needs to happen in the future.

I need these funds to let me afford to participate in this very expensive process of being a delegate. I am covering half of the estimated cost, with the $2000 goal being the other half.
