Melissa's Breast Cancer Fight

Cancer.......A diagnosis and disease most of us have some degree of familiarity with. I like a lot of individuals had little first hand experience. That was until August 27, 2015-the day my Melissa was diagnosed with stage 2, triple positive HER2+ breast cancer, a particularly aggressive form of it. 
In the time since she has undergone a series of 18 weeks of weekly infusions of extremely potent drugs that have exacted horrific tolls to her physically and emotionally. She has also endured a lumpectomy to her left breast and is currently going through a battery of 8 weeks of bi-weekly chemo infusions of a cocktail of drugs known as the red devil(it truly is that to put it mildly). Upon completion of this phase, she will be put through 6 weeks of daily radiation. As if that weren't enough for any of us, she will need to complete one year of herceptin once every three weeks as well as remain on anti-estrogens for 5 years. Of course there will be periodic check ups to watch for reoccurances. 
I've watched this terrible disease ravage her body and mind and push her to her physical and mental limits. A physically and mentally strong beautiful young woman is sometimes unrecognizable as she fights to survive with everyday being a struggle. 
Financially is another piece of the diagnosis of cancer few consider. Even with insurance and disability, Melissa has already racked up thousands in out of pocket expenses with more to come. Asking for help with this is not something she would ever do, but I will. Any amount would help offset her financial hardship, and I'm hoping to raise $15,000 for her so she can focus on getting better and not expend precious energy worrying how she'll pay for it all.
