Roxy Dog

Hi there, and thankyou for taking the time to read this and for cllicking in the first place!

My name is Richard Pearce and i live in malvern with my partner Bea and son Dylan. We have a dog called Roxy and a cat called Gibson. We are not a wealthy family and dont have much in the way of possessions but work hard to pay our bills and enjoy life as best as we can.  We spend a lot of time with our animals and it would be fair to say they are an integral part of our lives and i couldnt imagine life without them.

Roxy is our four year old border collie and is currently recovering from surgery due to a "freak accident" in which a stick penetrated through the back of her throat and hit a main artery.  We were at the park at the time of the accident, i didnt even see how it was caused, she came to me wimpering with blood pumping from her mouth. By the time i had carried her home she had lost so much blood she was lifeless, we never thought she would make it. We immediately took her to our local vet (whitehouse vets in malvern) where a lovely gentleman there explained to us there was nothing they could do to help us, but without a moments hesitation, jumped in his car and lead the way to the 24hour emergency vet in worcester (Brentknoll Vets) . Roxy spent 36 hours at brentknoll vets where she was heavily sedated with methadone and attached to a drip. The first night there roxy was watched closely as the vets waited for her body to come out of shock and to ensure she was strong enough to go under anaesthetic to determine what damage had been done. The next morning the vets put roxy under and phoned to tell us that the damage was worse than they first thought and that we should come in straight away as the news was not good. Upon arrival they showed us the xrays, which showed roxy had broken quite a lot of small bones in her neck and that both her lungs had fluid on them, most probably blood but worse than that the wound in her throat was far worse than they thought. They explained to us that  they couldnt do anything further to help but there was a chance a specialist could have a better idea but it could cost between £4-5000 with no promise of a happy ending.  We as a family explained to the vet that we had no way of paying the bill but even if it took the rest of our lives if it meant Roxy had a chance to survive we would find a way somehow to pay the money. After 36 hours at brentknoll vets we took Roxy to Willows vets in solihull where we were told she would be put under anaesthetic for a second time and perform an endoscopy procedure to find out fully the extent of the damage and if the kindest thing to do would be to have her put to sleep. After a few hours the diagnosis was that the stick had missed her asophogus and windpipe meaning she should eventually make a full recovery but the damage that had been done was extensive and would take many months for her to return to her fully fit self. There is still a chance of repercussions but one week on she seems to be making slow progress in a positive direction. Roxy was and i hope sometime in the future to return to being the "mad as a box of frogs" massively loved wonderful dog she was before this terrible accident.
Im not very good at asking for help but this situation has left myself and my family in a very bad financial situation, one that i cant see a way out of. I work as a carer in and around the malvern area and earn a humble wage, which fluctuates due to being on a zero hour contract so even with the best will in the world i cannot pay for the wonderful work these veterinary organisations have performed for our Roxy dog.
It goes without saying that any donations made out of the kindness of your hearts will be gratefully received and will go towards paying the costs of Roxy's surgery bills. The current bill stands at £2700 bar a few pennies. This includes the initial 36hour stay at brentknoll (£1000) and the specialist surgery at willows (£1700).

This means so much to myself because without the wonderful people from these wonderful organisations an animal so young and full of life would have had her life cut short. I dont have enough thankyou's in the bank or words to explain my gratitude to the people who have already helped us and to those of you that may help us from here on in.

Just two last words........endless gratitude.
