My road to recovery

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Ylis Morales and I am 39 years old.  I currently work full time, study full time, I'm a mommy full time, Boy Scouts leader, a daughter, a grandaughter, a partner, a friend. Let me tell you my story! I am a second time breast cancer survivor and soon to be on my road to recovery. This is the reason I come to you! I was first diagnosed with breast cancer on my right breast at the young age of 22 when my oldest son was only 8 months old. I had a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiation. It was a long road but I made it! God granted me the gift and privilage to become a mother for the second time after I finished with my treatment, something doctors never thought possible. I was able to breastfeed with one breast full time for almost 3 years, another accomplishment! But unfortunately, I was diagnosed with breast cancer on my right breast again on May 6, 2016,  a day I will never forget. This time around my option for treatment is surgery and reconstruction. According to the doctors, I am not a candidate for quemotherapy (due to the type of cancer) or for radiation since I have already had it before and you can only have it once. So my treatment and action plan is a double mastectomy with reconstruction using my own tissue to remake the breasts now that I am not a candidate for implants due to the radiation I took before. Radiation ruined the skin and inner tissue therefore it cannot be used. Unfortunately I cannot have a back to back surgery like I would've liked to due insurance issues. So my surgeries and recovery process will be longer that expected. I will get my mastectomy first and then my reconstruction. For this reason I have to be out of my job longer than what was originally planned. Needless to say I am the provider for my 2 wonderful sons ages 17 and 11. I want to continue living life to the fullest and with the least stress under the circumstances. The boys have told me they want their mommy CANCER free, healthy and recuperated. This is why I humbly ask for your support in reaching my goal. Since I will be out of work for an undetermined period of time I need help with expenses ranging from medical expenses, traveling expenses, living expenses and everything that comes in between.  I just relocated to Florida one year ago and left my support system back in Puerto Rico (parents and friends)! They are the ones who will have to travel to take care of me, now that I only know a few people in Florida.

I have a fantastic family support system and they are my #1 fan always but I would love to make it bareable for them and  for my children. And not have them go through an economical strain, it is hard enough for them, as well as me, to have to go through this diagnosis, surgery and recovery process. Cancer does not only affect me but everyone around me.

If I obtain my goal, surpass it and it is alright with all you wonderful people I will donate the rest of the money to either a charity organization or anyone in need. You will all be notified where the money goes if it exceeds what I need. The funds are needed ASAP, now that my surgery is coming up soon, hopefully for October 2016.

I live an altruistic live, my family and friends can tell you all about it! I have a hard time asking for help and would never do so if I didn't need it. I believe in paying it forward. And we can change the world with one act of random kindness at a time! Thank you so much for your support in being a part of my road to recovery!!!
