Hi!
My name is Amzie Smith. I am a sophomore at Ballard High School in Louisville, Ky. In November, just a few weeks after my 16th birthday, I went to the doctor for some abdominal pain. The doctors did an ultrasound followed by a CT scan that revealed I have a tumor on my liver. I was admitted to Kosair Childrens Hospital where they ran tests on me for the next week. After a biopsy, we discovered I have stage 4 hepatocellular carcinoma, which is a fancy word for a rare form of adult liver cancer. This cancer is very rare in children so there aren't many options for curing it, although we are staying very optimistic . I underwent two rounds of chemo and it didnt have any effect. Our next step is to radiate the largest tumor to kill it off, and stop it from spreading anymore. We are going to try other forms of therapy after that. Although nothing is set in stone, the doctors say I may not have much longer, so I want to make the most of it. I made a short bucketlist of a few things I really want to do in the next year or so. Things on this list include a trip to Universal Studios with my Dad and step-mom, riding in a hot air balloon and some other small things.
