Lorne Bakanec Recovery Fund

Donation protected
It has been almost six months since our brother, Lorne Bakanec, suffered a major hemorrhagic stroke on Dec 12, 2015 while driving.

The ambulance and emergency response team were able to trace his cell phone and find him in time to save his life. Lorne was in an unconscious state for about one month, with many life-threatening crises during that time. After three months he was stabilized and released from hospital to continue rehabilitation as an outpatient.

His wife, Karen, has been driving him a distance several times a week for his therapy and we thank the Lord that he is recovering at a steady rate.
Although it may be seen as a slow progress, we are thankful to God that the doctors are saying they expect a substantial recovery in two years.

Lorne’s right side, speech, swallowing etc. have been affected, but we are thrilled to report that he is now walking short distances with a cane. He can go up and down stairs slowly, eat mostly on his own, and can talk in a deliberate manner, conveying thoughts and understandings to you. This all takes great effort for him.

Lorne is continuing to work hard on his speech and the strengthening of his right leg, hip, shoulder, and arm. The more he can gain back right away, the more likelihood of a full recovery.

Although Lorne and Karen had some savings, the expense of retro-fitting a home, therapy aids,  driving to another city several times a week for rehabilitation, and running a household with children still at home and in school, have put a strain on their finances.

It will be many months yet before Lorne or Karen will be able to work.

If you feel you’d like to help them out, arrangements have been made to help you do so as easily as possible.

Donations can be made here at our “Go Fund Me” page, or you can donate anonymously at any Scotia Bank Branch to Basic Banking acct # 84822 04493 26 (In trust for Lorne Bakanec)  and thirdly, you can send an email money transfer to karbak at rogers.com. Money given to the trust fund is totally anonymous, so we have no way of saying thank you to you directly. But please know your donations are sincerely appreciated and we thank you for your kindness in enhancing life for both Lorne and his family as they continue the long journey on the road to his recovery!
