My Magical Mission to Africa

Donation protected
Why would I want to go to Kenya, you might be thinking? Because I promised I would. I made a commitment to a young man named Patrick. Patrick came to 502 Power Yoga last year from Kenya to raise awareness about the Africa Yoga Project. He taught 13 classes and I practiced at all of them. He has this fire inside him that is so infectious! Before he left, I told him, “Mark my words Patrick, I will come to Kenya and I will join AYP and the mission.” And now is my opportunity and I am so ecstatic!

This Seva Safari, lead by Sarah Smith, will create an impact in the lives of current AYP yoga instructors in Kenya by giving them the tools to seek employment through professional development training. I am so excited for this opportunity to collaborate with Sarah, the other volunteers, and the AYP community!

I remember my first class with Sarah Smith. She told me, “You’re allowed to smile in yoga class! Have some fun! Break out of the box you’ve put yourself in because you are ready now to be the leader of your life.”  Within a couple weeks of taking that class, I was signed up for yoga teacher training. She was right. I was ready to be a leader just like I am ready now to go to Kenya. In that class, I felt truly seen. Through that experience, I realized that we are the same. We are all one. No matter what background, social class, color of our skin, or age, we are all one. And we are all powerful.

Baptiste yoga has taught me that I am powerful beyond my belief and that I have the leadership within me to help others realize their own power. Being of service to others is all about being up to something bigger than myself.

I plan to be of service by volunteering in Kenya and by raising money for the Africa Yoga Project. I have a goal of $4,000 and I need YOUR help. I have a deadline of October 3rd. Please help me take on this mission by donating any amount that you can, no donation is too small. All of the funds raised will go directly to the people of Africa Yoga Project.
