Jingle Bells Marker NOW FUNDED

Tax deductible
James L. Pierpont composed the song Jingle Bells while he was the Music Director at the Unitarian Church of Savannah, GA in the 1850's when his brother Rev. John Pierpont was the minister for this church. The Unitarian Church of Savannah built in the 1850's faces Troup Square on Habersham Street in Savannah, Ga.

An historical marker honoring Pierpont's composition had been in Troup Square in the Savannah's historic district until September 2016 when it was broken at the base in a storm. We are now raising funds to remount or replicate the original marker and place it back in Troup Square.

Savannah Tech  will attempt to cast a new aluminum base and bracket to remount the existing marker; if that pilot, scheduled for the Spring of 2017, is not successful a replica of the complete original marker will be manufactured as soon as sufficient funds are available. The original marker was not installed by the Georgia Historical Society and therefore they, nor the City of Savannah, have offered to help fund this project.

This is an important story for Savannah and we would like to celebrate the completion of funding and installation of the replacement well before Christmas 2017 as a present to the citizens of Savannah. All of the funds contributed here will be used to cast, transport and install a repaired or replicated marker. If necessary, a  new marker will be made at the Southwell Company foundary in San Antonio, Texas - which creates the markers for the Georgia Historical Society.

Donations will be accepted by the Board of the Unitarian Church of Savannah, GA, a qualified non-profit organization well known in Savannah, and funds will be restricted to this project.  The expected cost for casting a new base by Savannah Tech is $750; a new marker will cost $2,870 as shown below.

Gordon Matthews is the VP of the Board of the Church and is creating this campaign on behalf of the Church; he previously was President of the Historic Savannah Foundation and has served as the Treasurer for a number of local non-profits including the Savannah Music Festival, Ossabaw Island Foundation and Union Mission.
