Making ends meet

On Easter Monday Patrick got the news that he had male breast cancer and that a mastectomy would be needed.  He came to tell me at my job. At that time I was about to tell a story to 30 preschoolers. I was called out of the classroom. And from that moment on both of our lives changed.

I became the  major breadwinner, the reader of medical forms, the giver of medicine and the biggest supporter of all.

He became a cancer patient. Surgery, a port and chemo. His side effects are brutal: depression, nausea, headaches and the unability to work. He is a plasterer. And he's counting the days until he can get back on his stilts and make a ceiling smooth.

Because i am  now the major breadwinner, we are struggling. Each visit to the doctors has a co-payment. We are juggling bills and paying for meds. I'm seeking counseling-  and that too, will have a co-payment.

I feel really uncomfortable asking for help. But we both feel that we truly need it. The support that we have been receiving has been exceptional, so I hate to ask for more. Any little bit will help. We thank you.

As Patrick says,  our Faith, Family and Friends  have sustained us.

Thank you ,

Ann and Patrick xxx
