Abigail is the big sister of 3 adoring younger brothers. Her medical journey started sometime around the fall of 2015. Abigail began to occasionally complain of stomach pain shortly after eating. We did some minor diet adjustments and things subsided a bit. About that same time, she also began to have problems with her knees randomly swelling. We thought it was due to her intensified competitive swim schedule but by Thanksgiving she had to drop out of the team.
Things seemed fine until our whole family caught a stomach virus in the beginning of February. Everyone in the family recovered within a couple of days except for Abigail.
For the next 3 months, we were in and out of doctor's offices struggling to find answers as to her inability to eat and the rapid weight loss we were seeing.
On May 2nd, after already being sent home from a hospital once, and seeing a continued digression, we decided to drive the 4 hours south to the Little Rock Children's Hospital Emergency Room and beg her to be seen.
Abigail was admitted in critical condition that night and we spent the next 18 days at Children's. After a week of multiple tests, she was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. Currently, we have doctor and hospital bills dating back to February. Throughout this upcoming year, she will have multiple visits back down to Little Rock Children's Hospital to see her GI Specialist as well as to see her PCP. She also needs bi-weekly blood draws to monitor her medications. The money that is donated will go to pay past medical bills and also help with upcoming medical trips.
