SMACS Afterschool Program
SMACS must follow most federal and state laws and regulations governing other public schools, including STAAR testing, attendance reporting, Special Education services, free and reduced lunch programs, etc. Although SMACS, as a charter school, receives public monies, charter schools only receive approximately 60% of the amount given to traditional public schools.
Proudly, SMACS has consistently improved school state test scores, and has received recognition as a model charter school. SMACS is an Exemplary school in Texas. SMACS is proud to be the very first charter school to be a Blue Ribbon School in Texas.
Through local grants and the 21st Century Learning Centers grant the school has provided both before and after school care, free of charge, as well as an extended summer program in conjunction with BISD. This has enabled countless students to learn robotics, art, guitar, music, volleyball, theater, technology, and tutorials in academic subjects.
Unfortunately we did not receive our 21st Century grant this year. This means our afterschool funding at SMACS has been removed. However, our administration believes that with the support of our parents and community we will be able to provide our students with what they need to be successful. SMACS Afterschool Program will provide their students with homework assistance as well as various activities to enhance their learning. The activities we will provide are art, drama, music, guitar, and technology. Our administration believes in this enrichment program so much that they have pledged $50,000 to get the program started. In order for this program to be as effective as it has in the past, we are aiming to increase the funding to $100,000. We would like to see this program continue in the years to come. This can be done only by your support. Are you with us?
