Wear Your Support For Tristen

My brother, Tristen, was eighteen when diagnosed with this debilitating disease.  Symptoms of this can begin gradually and may seem minor, for example difficulty with concentration, but can quickly intensify and lead to seizures, blindness, deafness, and loss of muscle control, all of which leads to a neurological deterioration of the cerebral white matter and may result in a complete vegetative state.

When Tristen had his first seizure we knew something was wrong and fought hard for this diagnosis.  Tristen is currently experiencing the rapid progression of this disease with numbness through the left-side of his body and great difficulty completing daily tasks, including walking and tying his own shoes.  My family has grappled with the fact that there is no cure for my brother, but due to the severe progression he will be admitted into OU Children’s Hospital to undergo chemotherapy and stem cell transplant.  Again, we know this will not cure him, but it is the only attempt Tristen has to halt the advancement or at least slow it down.

The stem cell procedure is very intensive, risky, and expensive, but it is Tristen’s only option. Tristen is expected to be in for 4-6 months. Therefore, my parents are making all the sacrifices they can to help their son.  My mother is taking a leave of absence without pay so she can stay in the hospital with Tristen.  My father is working as much as he can, but Tristen is obviously my entire family’s primary concern.  I want to do what I can to help my parents and brother, to make it all a little easier, to bring some kind of relief to this stressful situation.  Therefore, I have designed this shirt to raise money to help my parents with Tristen’s medical bills.
