Help to save Cacao!

Hi! My name is Andrea Reggio and I´m an animal rescuer from Venezuela.

In the past 3 years I have been able to rescue almost 23 dogs, all ages and types, and it has been the most amazing experience on Earth! Happy endings are always a blessing and give hope to a country full of troubles.

A few days ago I came up with one of my biggest challenges, 3 of the cutest collie dogs I have ever seen that, unfortunatelly, have been through a lot.

Two of them were sick, a bit depressed, very thin and showed signs that they were abandoned for quite a long time.

But the third one was definetively dying! his gums were white, his skin cold and his hollow eyes showed me those were his last hours.

We took the three of them to the vet and for her expression I was quite sure the little puppy was not going to make it, they inyected minerals, vitamins and suerum to re-hidrate him, and that was enough to see his eyes sparkling again

After that, the vet ran a few tests and our biggest concern was confirm: the diagnosis was parvovirus.

The canine parvovirus (CPV) infection is a highly contagious viral illness that affects dogs. It is characterized by vomit, diarrhea, weight loss, and lack of appetite (anorexia). and most dogs die after 72 hours of the first sympthoms to appear.

The mortality rate of this illness is very high (80% of the affected dogs) and in the case of this little fellow, the odds were against him.

So the vet recommended to put him to sleep and focus the treatment (which is very expensive) on the two other puppies.

The puppy looked right into my eyes like requesting a second chance, so I understood that euthanasia was definitively not an option.

I took the dog into another place and the new vet inmediatly admit him into an specific area conditioned to held the most risky and contagious patients,

All the vets said

"You should know that only one in a million of dogs survives to this, specially when considering these conditions"

"Better puppies haven't make it"

"Only a God's miracle could save him"

But he is fighting, and now, he started eating soup and cheering up, He is a real fighter and a miracle for sure!

Everyone is constantly asking about Cacao´s doing (Thats his new name by the way) and each day this little miracle dog teachs everybody how powerful is his willingness to live.

Tomorrow he will be out of the hospital and the most risky part is over, thanks to hundreds of prays, God's will and the fighting champion he proved to be.

Unfortunatelly he is not done, the vets said that he will need a very expensive food, medicines, constant medical consultations and LOTS of love in order to recover his health (that, sadly, will never be as good as other dogs)

Due to the high cost of his treatment (totally worth it) I can't afford by myself everything he now needs, so I ask your help to give a happy ending to Cacao's recovery story.

This little Lassie dog is a fighter, and a living proof that the odds means nothing if you really want to achieve something (even surviving!) so I will be very grateful to you all if you become now part of his story and follow me on the way up of Cacao´s Life.

God Bless! and lots of puppy love for everyone!
