Help raise money for Marina and her family's medical and living expenses
Marina is a beautiful 16 year old girl, who lives with her mother and 2 younger brothers in the Boston, MA area. She loves animals, especially horses, and has a huge passion for life.
When Marina was not even 2 years old, she was in a fire that started in her room. She sustained severe burns, especially to her face and upper body ( 65% lll A, B degree). It was a miracle she survived at all, as for the first 2 months, every morning the doctor would come out and tell the mother "we are not sure if she'll be alive by the end of the day". Since no one was allowed in the ICU, Marina's mom, Olga, got a job at the hospital, so that she could see her child.
A year later, they came to Boston, MA, and Marina has been receiving treatment at the Shriners Burn Hospital. Since arriving in the US 13 year ago, she's already had 26 surgeries and there are many more to come. At the moment, the surgeries are free, all focused on transplanting and growing skin and fixing the scars that are stunting her growth. She'll be able to start having reconstructive plastic surgeries when she turns 21, but these would require out of pocket payments, which her family simply does not have. In one of her school essay's, Marina wrote "I also want to be different, because I scare younger kids by my looks even if I don't want to".
Olga is a single mother of 3, at the moment holding 3 jobs and barely making the ends meet. Going back to Russia is not an option, as they need to be close by in case there is an opening for another surgery.
Please consider helping this family with their daily expenses, as well as contributing to the savings fund for Marina's future plastic surgeries.
