The Need -
We are seeking your support for a new drinking water system for the Santo Mission in Port au Prince, Haiti. The Mission is run by the Missionaries of the Poor (MOP) and the Brothers, staff and volunteers care for more than 80 residents.  The mission is a very secure and safe place.  The brothers currently buy bottled water. They have already installed a new well but the well requires treatment for it to be potable.  Many of Haiti‘s wells get cross contaminated from human and animal waste and make the water unsafe to drink.  Some waterborne illnesses can be life threatening.

The New Water System -  The system will be designed to supply up to 750 gallons per day.  Typical drinking water needs are expected to be 150 gallons per day.   The new water system will include a trash filter, booster pump, dual softening system, sediment filter, reverse osmosis filtration, ultraviolet light disinfection, bottling station, spare parts and analytical equipment.   To house the system and an adjacent food storage area, a new building will also be constructed.   The pictures below are from the MOP site in Cap Haitian where the team has successfully implemented the same system.  The success of the Cap Haitian water system has been the impetus for implementing the same sytem in the Santo Mission in Port au Prince.

The Costs - The total cost of the building and the water treatment system is $24,000.  A church in Richmond Virginia has raised and committed $12,000 of this total.  So our goal for this campaign is to raise another $12,000.

The Water Team - The water team is made up of the same team who planned, installed and regularly monitors the Cap Haitian System - Lee Brown, Correll Moore, Mary Ellison, Laura Wright and A.J. Capuzzi.  They are engineers, scientists and water professionals with experience installing and starting up systems in developing countries.  They will plan, design, procure, install, and start-up the system.  They will provide training, operating procedures and ongoing support

Fundraising Partners -  Hands for Haiti a registered 501-3 (c) charity in Randolph New Jersey, is sponsoring this fund drive.  Their members include Steve Gebhardt, Mark Creasser, Steve Favory, and Cindy Tice.  This effort is being assisted by other Randolph residents including Jim Huber, Peggy Wagner, Courtney and Tom Spellman, Stephanie and Rene Toledo.

The Goal - The intent is to provide a sustainable drinking water system that the Brothers can operate and maintain.   We hope to place the system into operation in the October 2016.  We need to raise $12,000 by July 2016 to make this a reality.
