At 18 months old, our champion José Antonio always has a smile on his face and peace in his eyes. He’s one of the sweetest boys you’d ever meet.

Since he was born in January 2015, doctors have discovered several challenges my sweet nephew has been facing with his parents. He has moebius syndome (a rare neurological condition that affects facial and ocular muscles), slow progression in the acquisition of skills, and bilateral deafness. He was born unable to suction feed, has hypotonia, and poor response to stimuli. Doctors also discovered lumbar problems, cerebellum hypotrophy, inconsistent auditory response, mixed motor disorder, and Symptomatic epilepsy among other issues. Soon after birth, this little fighter has received physiotherapy, occupational therapy, swallowing therapy, and language therapy (a total of seven sessions per week)... and Thanks to all the care he receives, he's progressing!

Last time his parents and baby were taking a break from his demanding routine, the baby got sick from a virus during the trip. He had to be admitted to the emergency room at Cincinnati Children Hospital, where he was sent to intensive care soon after admission. Luckily he regained his health thanks to the resources and care he received at this great facility, but the downside is that his parents now have a bill for over $9,000 which is way more than they could afford.

Now they need to take our champion overseas to a specialized neurological facility to make sure they are passing on the right diagnosis and treatment track. The cost to cover neurologic studies, scans, medicines, doctor visits, travel and lodging, is about USD 25,000 extra on top of all the therapies he already goes to.

This situation is economically out of their reach for his parents back home, due the cost of the daily therapies, treatments and medicines in an economy where there’s a huge devaluation of the local currency. This makes it very hard to obtain the thousands of dollars they need to honor the commitment they have with the hospital, continue with the current therapy program, pay for a double cochlear implant, and give the baby the hope to have an opportunity to access technology and care he needs overseas to accelerate his development. This is why we’re asking you to help this loving family to cover the funds they need to support this little fighter. Funds will be received by Luis Grau, the baby's father. Any  amount is truly appreciated.

Little by little, we see his progress, but we do need your support to keep giving him hope. Thank you for helping our champion to keep fighting!
