Save a NASA Mobile Observatory!

The Center for Planetary Science , a 501.c.3 Non-Profit Organization , needs YOUR help to save and restore a rare NASA artifact! The Contraves Cinetheodolite Tracking System was used by NASA and the U.S. Air Force for rocketry experiments. Of the 22 built - only 2 have survived! This specific dome was stationed at Cape Canaveral and is now located on a farm, rusting away, in Central Florida. Our goal is to restore and convert this rare piece of history into a mobile observatory for astronomical research, including sharing it with local astronomy clubs, teachers, and science students. 

Upon restoration, we will install a 12" LX200 Meade Telescope for optical observations; and a SpectraCyber Hydrogen Receiver, which will be routed to a 10-meter radio telescope to research gamma-ray pulsars.

Purchase from Owner: $2,000 
Sandblast, Paint and Prime: $500
Clean and Repaint Interior: $200
Red LED Lighting for Interior: $150
Custom Decals: $150
Transport the Observatory: $500

This project will be lead by Prof. Antonio Paris, Chief Scientist at the Center for Planetary Science , an Adjunct at St. Petersburg College ,  and the Director of Space Programs at MOSI  . Additionally, the project is a joint effort with the Farrout Observatory  in Dade City, FL and several astronomy clubs in the Tampa Bay Area.
