Help Princess beat Animal Cruelty

Animal Cruelty Case - Weston  NSW

My name is Dee Walton and i am the owner of Sawyers Gully Animal Rescue at Weston.

On the 6th May 2016 i missed a call from a woman who had been feeding a stray cat that had kittens in her yard, she left a message to say that her neighbour has killed the mum and she didnt know what to do about the 1 week old babies.

When i received the message i immediately called the woman back but another rescue group had collected the kittens. The lady tells me that she was inside of her house when she heard a big bang so they went outside to investigate it. That's when they saw her neighbour holding the cat hanging upside down by her tail. The lady asked was the cat dead for which he responded "Well it shouldnt have been in my yard". Naturally i asked her to report the man to the Police and RSPCA.

The next day i find out that Mumma cat wasnt dead and she dragged herself back to where she had her kittens. It must have taken her hours in excruitating pain as her only instinct was to get back to her babies regardless of the pain she was in. The lady then calls the rescue who has the kittens and they pick her up.

This is where it goes pear shape - Mum cat and kittens have now been taken to the RSPCA. Not ideal at all so i drive immediately into the RSPCA to find out what i can do to help her, unfortunately as it is an ongoing investigation they wont tell me anything.

By this stage the owner has been found but doesnt want to take the animal back as she told her son the cat was given away to a lovely family.

The RSPCA asked her to surrender the ownership to them but fortunately she opted to surrender her to our shelter instead knowing what RSPCA's euthanasia rates are.

On Friday the 13/05/16 i went back to the RSPCA and said "I am here to see about our cat", i was so nicely told no its not your cat as we wont be doing the change of ownership at this stage. Let's just say "Not happy Jan". I said well lets just say that she had not better be put down.

On Monday the 16/05/16 at 10.57am, the head RSPCA Inspector called to say that the witness has failed to come forward and that they have never had a situation where ownership of an animal has occurred during mid investigation. I said that girl dragged herself back to her kittens (her family) so she needs a chance and i am going to fight for her.  In the end i agreed to meet him on Thursday to talk to him and to see Princess for myself.

On Thursday 19/05/16 i waited nearly 1.50 hours and finally the vet came to take me in to see her.  I think my heart shattered right there at that minute. Her legs are straight back and she drags herself around trying to tend to her babies. I will admit i broke down there and then. I dont think i will ever understand how people can be so cruel and could live with themselves but the reality it does happen and happen every damn day.

The inspector didnt come that day because they could no longer pursue it without a witness. The cat was mine to do what i wanted.

Princess has a fractured back, she is paralysed below her waist. How much injury has been sustained we dont know, what we do it is significant. She cant poo or wee by herself. This has to be done for her, 3 to 4 times a day. She cries when it happens (i would cry too). She's on medications twice a day.

On Saturday 21/05/16 my partner and myself went into the RSPCA to pickup Princess and her kittens. I had to learn how to empty her bladder (Which isnt easy).

She needs a MRI/CT done. SASH have quoted us $2600.00 plus a $200.00 consultation fee. A operation is going to be another $7000.00 to $8000.00.

In desperation i contacted Bondi Vet but the networkcompany said they are not in production at the moment and they dont have anyone to help at this moment.

This is where we are coming to you, Animal Cruelty cant be condoned and it shouldnt be either. This girl is not just a cat, she is a living and breathing animal that didnt deserve this. Ask yourselves, what if this was your animal?

If she can fight, we can fight and we are asking you to fight with us, follow her journey and help her get the help she needs.

Even through all that she has endured so far at the hands of a evil monster, Princess is still a lovely natured cat so devoted to her babies and she isnt giving up and neither will we.

I know alot of us dont have spare money but if you can find some spare change to help make a difference for Princess we would really appreciate it.

Sawyers Gully is a registered not for profit charity, therefore any donations over $2.00 are tax deductible and we would be more than happy to provide a receipt for your upcoming tax returns. Just pm us with a copy of your receipt and email address and we will send you one.
