Help Heather Conquer Cancer

As many of you know, Heather was diagnosed with cancer this past January.  Also, as we all know, medical bills can be incredibly expensive, especially when you don't have insurance.  Unfortunately, she didn't have insurance in January, so we have to pay 100% out of pocket for the doctor visits, procedures, tests, scans, etc. that proceeded the diagnosis and for some of them after the diagnosis, also. Our bills for these reached five figures before she was able to obtain insurance and have it kick in.  Even with insurance now, we still have to pay a portion of all the medical expenses, a high max out of pocket, as well as for other things, like healthy foods and the monthly insurance payments among other things.

I wish I could say this wasn't a problem for us. I wish I could say we didn't need help. In fact, I have been telling myself that for months now because I haven't wanted to ask for help.  But, I have to stop fooling myself... We do need help.

Heather is fighting this horrible disease, but she hasn't been able to work for months and we have been on one income. Being that this was unexpected, we were not prepared and money concerns have constantly been increasing and have become a huge unneeded stress at this time.

Family, friends and maybe even a stranger or two who just wants to help, I am asking you all on behalf of Heather and myself, to please help if you are able to.  Every little bit helps. We are not trying to profit off of this. It kills me to have to ask for help.  Donated money will be used to help Heather continue to fight this while maybe having to deal with a little less stress, so she can get healthy and back to being her fun, loving, colorful, vibrant and happy self and have many more years with her children, grandchild, family, and friends.

THANK YOU for taking the time to read this and THANK YOU for any help you are able to give.

-Corey Beach (Heather's husband for those of you that don't know me)

I know it's been a while since I've posted an update... Sorry about that. Heather is doing well. About two and a half weeks after the surgery we received the pathology results and they were better than we were even hoping for. It was stressful waiting for the results, but the wait ended up being worth it. The tumor had shrunk drastically from where it was when all of his started and they tested twelve lymph nodes that were cut out and none of them had cancer in them. All of her scans this year showed cancer in two of them, so we were hoping it was only going to be found in those two when they tested them, but the chemo and radiation got rid of it in the nodes so that was amazing news.

Two days ago she went in to do another scan to see if she had healed enough to have the ileostomy takedown surgery. She passed that scan and is now officially scheduled to have the ileostomy takedown surgery and removing of her port on November 29.

Thank you to everybody again for all the love and support shown to Heather throughout all of this and have a great Thanksgiving !

The surgery went well. They were running behind, so it started later than expected and it lasted almost an hour and a half longer than we thought it would, but she made it through. It was over at about 4:45pm and I talked to the surgeon afterwards. It seems to have gone as well as we could have reasonably hoped for. A couple of hours ago she was taken from post op to her room where she will be staying for the next week or so. Unfortunately it is a shared room, which wasn't great for her in her last hospital stay, but I guess we'll have to just get through it. Thank you to everybody for the love an support shown to Heather.

Heather will be having surgery tomorrow to remove the tumor. It will start at 9:45 am and is supposed to last about four hours. I'll post an update tomorrow night to let everyone know how it went.
You can beat this, Heather!

Heather is still recovering from the chemo and radiation, but gets a little better, slowly but surely, day by day. Yesterday we met with the surgeon and have set the date of October 11th for surgery. In the meantime, she'll have more scans and follow up visits with her doctors and just continue to recover so she can get stronger in preparation for surgery. After surgery she'll have to stay in the hospital (again) for about a week and she'll have around 6 weeks to recover before she is supposed to do more chemo. So, it has already been an incredibly hard fight, but there is still a lot ahead.

Thank you to everyone that has donated so far, we are very grateful for every donation. To anybody else that might be considering it, every little bit helps and is very much appreciated.

Although I don't directly know Heather, I am an acquaintance of her sister Melissa, whom I admire greatly. I have experienced cancer more than once in my family and feel the pain. Hope this small amount can help.
