Gardening Program for Youth

Donation protected

This spring, youth at risk will get outside, learn skills, make friends, and work the earth beneath their feet through DECSA’s first ever Down to Earth gardening program for young people living in northeast Edmonton.

Between June and September of this year, six youth will plant, grow, and harvest non-GMO vegetable seeds in plots on our grounds. They will team up with volunteers and a program facilitator to gain gardening skills they can use for the rest of their lives and to learn about food security at the same time. These youth will have an opportunity to build friendships and receive mentorship as they work and talk together. And at the end of their journey, they’ll have vegetables to be proud of and take home.

After harvest the group will celebrate success with a potluck party including some of their own fresh vegetables!

Everyone who contributes $25 or more will receive a thank-you card with a package of seeds in the mail.

We’ll be turning this piece of land into gardening plots:

We’re just about finished making the plots:

We’ve got a wide variety of non-GMO vegetable seeds to plant:

Your contributions will help us pay for:

●     Land preparation and dirt
●     Safety equipment
●     More seeds
●     New hoses
●     Snacks for the youth
