24th Birthday for Syrians

$1,625 of $1,000 goal

Raised by 34 people in 18 months
For my 24th birthday, I'd like to invite you to join me in donating to the victims of the Syria crisis.  Even if it's $2, it makes a difference. Over 400,000 lives have already been lost in the worst humanitarian crisis since WWII.

I'm planning to split the proceeds 30/70 between The White Helmets (Syrian Civil Defence) and its immediate rescue efforts for those trapped under rubble by airstrikes & the International Rescue Committee's humanitarian support of refugees who have evacuated from places like Aleppo.

The White Helmets are Syrian volunteer rescue workers operating in war-torn cities across the country who extract civilans from the rubble following airstrikes by the Assad regime and Russia. This is a critical time; with the likelihood of Aleppo falling to Assad in the coming weeks, support of the White Helmets could save hundreds of lives as airstrikes intensify in the coming days. Here's more info:  https://www.whitehelmets.org/en, and there's also a great 35-min documentary on Netflix about their work: "The White Helmets."

The International Rescue Committee provides crucial support to Syrian refugees. Having worked for both the IRC's Somalia mission and their domestic resettlement program in San Diego, I can attest to their track record. They also have a 4/4 star rating by Charity Navigator. While the IRC can't currently operate in places like Aleppo, it's providing direct aid to families who have made it to Al Dana and beyond. The IRC also supports refugees in camps in neighboring countries and throughout the resettlement process.  https://www.rescue.org/country/syria#how-does-the-irc-help-in-syria.

This is it. Aleppo is falling and Assad has retaken nearly every critical and strategic position in the country after years of barrel bombs and chemical attacks.

"And whoever saves one -- it is as if he had saved mankind entirely."

I'm so grateful to friends & family for having blown through my initial $1000 fundraising goal. I just donated $450 to The White Helmets and $1050 to the International Rescue Committee. I'm going to keep the GoFundMe open for the next few days in case you (or someone you know) would still like to donate during this critical time but haven't yet had the chance. Thank you!
