Support SHARE In Its Time of Crisis
Donation protected
For more than 25 years, SHARE (Seattle Housing and Resource Effort) has been providing emergency overnight shelter for people experiencing homelessness in King County.
Due to funding cuts and a general increase in operating expenses, SHARE recently had to shut down its network of 15 indoor shelters. We are currently operating 5 Tent Cities (with close to 400 people), including two at or around the King County Administration Building in downtown Seattle. King Countyrecently reduced and then cut all funding to SHARE and has refused to recognize Tent Cities as valuable survival mechanisms for homeless folk.
Our current debt stands at around $40.000. We are working hard to get the City and County to recognize the value of funding an organization like SHARE and to reopen our indoor shelter network, but we are struggling. Our debt keeps mounting and with the opening of Tent Cities 6&7, we are spending around $7,500 a month just on Honey Buckets at our Tent Cities.
SHARE has reached a crisis moment. Without financial support, we will be forced to lay off staff and shut down some of our programs (such as SHARE2, a work-for-housing program).
