Becoming a grandmother and taking part in raising a child was a life-changing and eye-opening experience for me, as it is for many new grandparents. When, my first grandson, Sammy, would not fall asleep without listening to the 'family heirloom' - an improvised tale about two kittens - it dawned on me that there might be more to the story. Once I started writing, the stories flowed out like a genie out of a bottle.
The series is called Ooli & Tooli *, and is geared for children 4-8 years old. Currently, there are seven edited books and the first one is being professionally illustrated. The pilot readings, done at early education schools, were successful with both teachers and students.
The stories are optimistic and look for the good and the kind around us. They also provide implicit guidelines and rules of conduct for parents and children alike. The morals in the stories are universal and pertinent today. It is those values that are the heart and core of the stories. To name a few: Learn something new; Become self reliant; Be the best you can be; Learn to deal with and resolve hardships. They all end with the same Good Night poem:
"Good night my sweet
Good night my bright
You are both, my shining light
Sleep tight tonight with all your might
Wake up with cheer and great delight"
Having been raised in the Pre-PC era, I have noticed the different ways of child rearing between then and now. One obvious difference is that back then, asking for help or money was frowned upon. So this endeavor is not easy for me. Yet, trying new things is one of the messages in the books. So here I am, feeling grateful for your donation, that will go towards putting the Business Plan in motion and self publish the books. Every donation over $ 18 will receive a printed copy.
