Help Save The Old Homosassa Water Tower!
The Old Homosassa, FL. water tower has welcomed residents and visitors to our community since 1964 as well as standing as a landmark from the Gulf of Mexico for mariners and recreational boaters. There was no potable water in the community until 1959, when residents petitioned the state legislature to form the Old Homosassa Water District and wells were dug at Bluebird Springs. The water tower made it possible to finally have running water in every home. Forty years went by and a modern municipal water system made the tower obsolete. Scheduled for demolition, the Old Homosassa Historical Preservation Society petitioned to have the tower recognized as a State Historical Structure and it was purchased by the organization. Saving this structure is the goal of the Old Homosassa Heritage Council. Repairs, painting, and site development will require $85,000.00. The concerted efforts of this organization have raised approx. $20,000 to date. Plans are being considered for a cell tower to be installed atop the structure which will provide funds for maintenance going forward. Please consider making a donation of $5 or more to help achieve this honorable endeavor. The process is simple.
