We are representing Australia at the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Masters Championships in Las Vegas in August. We train at Martial Arts Queensland, an academy offering a range of classes and styles for children as young at three through to old timers such as us.

As representatives of our academy, we are role models for children aspiring to sporting excellence and achievement.

Our coach Matthew has been working hard to prepare our small team, and is taking time out of his business and away from his family (wife and five children) to attend the event.

Adam has overcome serious physical injuries, and has found Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) to be an excellent sport to strengthen both body and mind.

Like most martial arts, BJJ is a male dominated sport. Robyn proves that gender is no barrier to participation or achievement at any level, which encourages girls to continue participating in this or any sport.

Each of us is pursuing a dream in a sport that is hard on the body, especially for Masters, but it gives us such satisfaction at overcoming the odds that we each feel compelled to continue.

As unpaid and unsponsored athletes, we are all taking time from work and must fund our attendance at the event personally. All money raised will offset our expenses with travel, accommodation, entry fees and uniforms. We are also fund-raising locally to try to meet our target.
