Leonard’s Myopathy Story
My name is Leonard and I’m a happy 65-year-old. I love teaching courses on the Medicine Wheel Earth Astrology and Core Shamanism. I also provide Life Coaching style readings for people worldwide.
I currently have a serious muscle nerve condition diagnosed as Myopathy. I saw a neurologist (3rd one) in late June. The first signs of my condition began back 2014 just before my Grand Daughters birth. I was out for a brisk walk with my wife Angelaya when suddenly my left leg went out and I fell hard on the trail. I noticed in getting up there was a weakness in both arms and as time went on it became harder to climb stairs and do other activities. Because myopathy affects all the muscles I had to go through a series of Cardio tests of which I found I had Type 2 Diabetes and High Blood Pressure. After taking prescribed medications for several months now it is now pretty much normal. I have had Xrays, MRI, Ultrasound, CT Scan, EEG, EKG, EMG (nerve testing) as well as many blood tests. The doctors are still searching for the cause. I have now recently changed my diet so that I can be my normal weight which would help greatly.
This condition has changed my life forever and I have gained a deeper understanding of a Soul’s journey however along the way I have some losses one being the guitar as I just can’t make the chord changes on the left hand. This is disappointing after 52 years of singing and playing. I still play the Cedar Flute and Native hand Drum.
2 years ago I had a nasty fall and severely sprained my left foot. I now use a wheelchair as with the falling comes the danger of concussion This has been a setback and a painful one at that. If not for the help of my wife I don’t know what I would do. My wife Angelaya has been my primary support and caregiver.
I will be seeing a new doctor and looking into more Physio Therapy. I found a local swing pool with a Handicapped lift for people challenged with walking. This will be a great exercise as I do love the water.
The funds from this Fund Raiser are going to Handicapped equipment purchase and rentals. Pool fees, assistant fees, transportation fees, massage and chiropractic, reflexology and a Yoga and home fitness training and yoga. Purchase of some home exercise equipment, funds to take several months off for rejuvenation. As well we need to now move into a building that is set up for Handicapped people. This is why we have set the goal for $25,000 dollars. Your donations are so appreciated no matter what you can give. Many people I know as friend family and clients have stated that I have given so much for so many years. I now turn to the world and ask for some help.
