Help Fund Thor's Hospital Bills

Donation protected

First let me be upfront with you that this is not a scam in anyway shape or form. I can show you bills, paperwork, put you in contact with the animal hospital, and anything else you might need in order to make this surgery happen. Please let me know if there is anything I can do on my end.           Hello, my name is Stacy Myers. I'm hoping after I share a bit of my story with you that you can find it in your hearts to donate just a little bit. I'm well aware that I am asking for a large amount of money. But please you don't have to donate large. The small sums of money add up. Please read some of my story and then share share share.
OK let me tell you a little bit about my family. I am a 40-year-old single mother with two sets of twins. I have 17-year-old boy/girl twins. My son Austin has autism and my daughter Ambria suffers from severe depression and anxiety. Unfortunately for Ambria the bipolar that she has been diagnosed with runs in our family. I myself was diagnosed as bipolar when I was right around her age but unfortunately for me the diagnosis came a little bit too late. I had already attempted suicide with a 12 gauge shotgun to my abdomen. The journey back for me was a long slow painful one.  I am left with muscular skeletal disease and a hundred different other issues. I average about one surgery a year and about a year ago I was diagnosed with an in operable brain aneurysm. So needless to say her diagnosis scares me to death. I also have a set of 11-year-old twin girls. I have been taking care of all four of my children completely on my own for the past 11 years. I receive no assistance from the state, family, or friends. With the exception of medical assistance which I thank  God for every day as you can imagine. I have wonderful children Who know that as long as we have a roof over our head food in our bellies and each other that we are extremely blessed. So I had an aunt who reached out to me after seeing Ambria post something on Facebook about dealing with her depression. She then asked me if it was OK if she bought Ambria a Pug seeing's she has always wanted one.  She also informed me that she would be taking care of the neutering of the pet and all of the first shots. I would be responsible for the dog food, toys, and the once a year or so shots. I eagerly accepted hoping that this little guy would help my daughter and I started stashing some money away. I never thought in a million years i'd have to fork over this kind of money. Anyway little Thor came to live with us about a year and a half ago and completely changed our family. He did absolute wonders for my daughter with her depression and anxiety. She smiles more days then not now. He also worked wonders on my son who has autism. Instead of my son banging his head on the wall for hours at a time when he gets frustrated or can't find the words to express how he fee ls, I am now finding my son sitting on the floor and holding Thor and he receives much comfort in that. He has not banged his head in almost a year. The first time we brought little Thor into the vet they were surprised at how tiny he was and that he hadn't lost any of his baby teeth yet. Now mind you this was my official first visit after he had already gone in as a little thing and received all of his first shots. The vet just chalked it up to him being the runt of the litter . The next time he went in was because he was going potty every five minutes and straining. They tested him for a bladder infection which came out negative. They then told me that they thought he had some kind of neurological disorder that was affecting his spinal column and therefore affecting his bladder. They said they could do an MRI for $2000. I was then told that we could do some less expensive tests to rule that out. Upon doing those tests they noticed his prostate was inlarged and now they were thinking he doesn't have the neurological disorder. Also he wasn't neutered like I was promised. So they suggested neutering him to bring down the hormone levels and that should shrink the prostate. We did all of that and it seemed to help for just a little bit. The next trip was because he was drinking like crazy and acting a little strange after he ate. They ran more test, took more x-rays, racked up the bill some more, and found no explanation.  The vet bills were mounting. They work with me as having me pay half and the other half I can make payments on. Mind you while all of this was going on they had him on some pretty expensive medications that I actually had to go to Walgreens for.  The medications seemed to mask everything for a few weeks. I received my tax money back and was excited at the thought of paying off some bills and stocking the fridge with food. That didn't happen, Within a few days we noticed that he had stopped eating. We offered him everything and anything in order to get him to eat but he just wasn't interested.  Late into the night about the second or third day of him not eating we noticed him starting to cough. We then noticed him walking in circles and it was like he had no control over it. We could tell he was tired but he kept walking and coughing. He would stop long enough to fill his belly with water and then start walking again. He seemed really disoriented and out of it. I brought him outside to see if he had to go potty and maybe the fresh air would help. He has never left our yard in his short life. He started walking towards the street. I was right behind him and clapping my hands loudly and yelling his name. He seemed to not hear me at all. He continued to cross the street and go into the next yard. I picked him up and brought him back into the house. We noticed like saliva/mucus hanging from his mouth and he acted like he couldn't breathe. I was in a panic and phoned One of the emergency rooms that is open after hours. That of course was out of the question. I was crying and begging with them that I would pay them as soon as I could but of course they don't work that way. I went into mommy mode and thought what would I do if this was one of my actual children. I brought him in to my bedroom and got out the little girls nebulizer machine. I blew the albuterol in his face with the machine and it seemed to help him for a little bit. After a short time he went back to acting like he couldn't breathe and walking in circles. I seriously thought he was going to pass away that night. I grabbed him , Put him in the bathroom, and ran around the house collecting every humidifier that I owned. I plugged all three of them into the bathroom and I turned the shower on hot in order to steam up the bathroom. I watched him for a while and after about a half an hour he was snoring peacefully. I continued to do this all through the night until the vet opened up the next morning. I rushed him in preparing myself for the worst. They ran more tests  and did more x-rays and of course he had stopped coughing at this point. They came back to me and said they see some sort of blockage in his stomach and wanted to do surgery in order to see what it was and unblock it. I have owned older dogs in my life and have ran into the same situation. I knew it wasn't going to be a whole lot cheaper than surgery but at least my little guy might not get cut open. So I asked the Vet if she could just try and give him IV fluids for the day. They kept him there for the whole day and ran IV fluids and gave him laxatives. He had quite a few successful bowl movements throughout the day.  The vet bills were still mounting. I picked him up at the end of the day and they informed me they had ran blood test throughout the day and he was having problems with his liver. They said I believe he has what's called a liver shunt. They said I would have to bring him back in the morning because they do a certain blood test/procedure throughout the day in order to confirm it. More vet bills mounting. She gave me a sheet of paper that explained what a liver shunt was and all the signs and symptoms. I was flabbergasted reading the signs of a liver shunt. He could be the poster boy. They included stunted growth, we just thought it was because he was the runt, not gaining weight, unresponsiveness, disorientation,CIRCLING , Excessive drinking, excessive urination, just not acting right after eating. I asked her why after almost spending $3000(every penny and then some of my tax money) are we just finding this out now. She said it has to get to a certain stage before it shows up in the blood. So I took him home and they kept his catheter/IV in his arm in case there was an emergency in the evening. I brought him back and once again dropped him off for the day. When I picked him up she said it would take about a week for the results to come in. The next time she called me was with the positive results for a liver shunt and he was going to need a very expensive surgery. She said you have about 6 to 7 months to get him the surgery. After that he will start to suffer neurological damage and have to be euthanized. She said if he is able to have the surgery he will be 100% and be able to grow old with us. The surgery itself she says is not that complicated just very expensive. The definition of a liver shunt  happens when A pets venous blood from the stomach, intestines, pancreas, and spleen bypass the liver. They were saying that they would go in and place a clamp around the vessels which forces them to go through the liver like they are supposed to. I'm told it happens pretty quickly. I have to have him on a spendy vegetarian diet right now. He is not allowed any meat or high-protein. Once they do the surgery it only takes about a week and he can go back to eating his food, treats, his regular diet. When they gave me the news I honestly have never felt so defeated in my life. All of this money that was spent on unnecessary procedures, Bloodwork, x-rays, etc. I could have put down for this surgery and had been able to have our little guy healthy, happy, and with us  for many years to come. I feel like this is the cruelest joke that could be played on my children. We took trains, planes, and automobiles to get here and now that we are out of money we are standing at the foot of the bridge and we aren't allowed to cross over. I honestly don't know how my family would handle the loss of this little guy. My daughter has done a 180 with her depression and anxiety since he has been in the picture. He has been an absolute godsend to my son with autism. I've never asked anyone in my life for help but I have to ask you now. Please if there is anything you guys can do to make this surgery happen or if you know of anyone that can help us. I am pleading with you now. I'm sorry for taking up so much of your time but thank you so much for at least taking the time to read our story. God bless each and everyone of you and maybe you could say a little prayer for baby Thor. I know to  most he's just a dog but to us he's been a gift from God. Also please know that he has absolutely no neurological or other issues as of right now. Again if we can get this surgery done he will be a healthy, happy, one and a half-year-old little guy.
sincerely, Stacy Myers, Ambria, Austin, Kyli, Kaeden, and baby Thor
