Those Who Dont: Shoe Drive Event

Hi, my name is Marina and I am a high school student. This summer, my friends and I decided to host  a community-wide shoe drive. In countries such as Trinidad, people must walk miles to their destinations. We often take for granted and overlook the value of our shoes, but for the world's poor it is critical to obtain proper footwear. A good pair of shoes will provide aid to these individuals who find themselves in an already difficult situation. Proper footwear will protect the less fortunate against  parasites, cuts, and infection. Wearing shoes can help prevent diseases and long-term physical complications. My friends and I saw a need in the global community and we decided to step up and make a difference.


Our shoe drive plans to build hope for those in need by providing them with at least 1000 new or gently used pairs of shoes. The drive will run from June 5th to July 30th and we will be setting up shoe collection boxes in local areas such as Publix and several libraries. This summer, kids in Trinidad will be able to worry less about contracting diseases from foot injuries and more about simply being a kid. We plan to contact local businesses, newspapers, and radio stations. However, we need donations for buying shoes, spreading the word, and shipping these shoes overseas. It would mean the world to sucessfullly and smoothly organize this event, and only a few dollars makes a huge difference.

This means a lot to me and my community because I believe that I serve as an example for my teenage peers that our generation CAN make a difference.
