I have chosen to begin this journey and achieve this goal, because I want to bring awareness to charities/organizations that I feel strongly towards, and to use this as a springboard for my future aspirations at an international level. I want to inspire, empower, and make a difference.

The funds raised will go towards training, airfare to and from Toronto, items needed for the competition, and the organizations I will be supporting.

The charities I will be giving to are; Operation Smile, and the Canadian cancer society. As well as deepening the respect and knowledge of arts and physical activity for our Canadian youth.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and your support is greatly appreciated.

Kamilah Marie Claire Sturton was born and raised in Richmond BC.

From an early age the balance of dreams and reality was instilled by her parents. Staying open to all opportunities she was fortunate enough to be exposed to a myriad of sports and arts. When the time came to pursue one interest, she knew right away which one meant more to her than anything else.

Dance had her heart. For 15 years she dedicated herself to hours of intense training at local and national schools. She was fortunate enough to attend a secondary school that had built a flexible program allowing dedicated sports/arts students to customize their schedule. Throughout her training she recognized the importance of education, and maintained an honor roll status.

She wanted to break into the professional dance industry and make it her first career, and she did just that. Having signed with four contemporary ballet companies, she has had the privilege of working with some of the most inspiring artists, performing for wonderful audiences, touring to places throughout Canada as well as Thailand, as well as judging, instructing & performing at an International competition in Brazil.

Kamilah achieved numerous awards growing up, and upon recovering from a surgery at the age of sixteen, she went on to win BC provincial senior ballet title.

Versatility is required in the arts industry, so it was natural that she would want to dedicate herself to not only dance, but singing and acting as well.

Dance is more than just technique; it has given Kamilah opportunities she never imagined possible. She has volunteered for many productions, camps, performances, and more recently deepened her dedication to being an advocate for the arts, educating the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle, and working to empower youth in her city.

Naturally with any athletic dedication comes injuries and other set backs. Through these experiences she learned valuable lessons of patience, determination, optimism, and humbleness.

Currently Kamilah is recovering from an injury and is taking it as an opportunity to open doors, and accomplish other aspirations. She is coaching figure skaters off ice training, teaching dance, applying to continue University, and expanding her knowledge in sports nutrition.

In the future she hopes to be a strong voice for the arts, further her performing career, achieve a degree in education, build her certification in sports nutrition and personal training, be a face for inspiring athletic and artistic companies.

Kamilah knows nothing can be taken for granted, and wakes up each morning with an awareness of her aspirations, and sets out to inspire.
