Back 2 plus years ago I started taking on one of the biggest challenges of my life. Losing all the extra weight that I have gained since childhood, 570lbs. I was going to consider surgery, but with the great support from the cycling community, I got a bike and started riding with the dream of racing. UPDATE Today I am down to 305 lbs, feeling better depsite a minor heart scare in Jan 2014.
In 2014 I have some new plans and goals. First I want to do my first 65 non stop bike ride. In 2013 I did my first non stop 51 mile bike ride. Also I want to try to get out to as many states as I can and ride with you all, the racers, the riders and the new cyclsits that make up our great communtiy. Get some group rides going! I want to reach out and help people who are struggling with depression and help them be part of the cycling world, to meet new people and ride.
But the most important thing I want to do this year in 2014 is to change the image that some people have about cycling. How some people think Big people or people who look diffrent dont belong on a bike or should not be able rock lycra/spandex ie cycling kit or uniform. As some of you might know, I myself have been targeted recently on this very topic. I want to change this! I want it to be no matter what size, shape, race, age, Sexual orientation"Ž, faith, heath, or what ever else reason you can come up with, you can put on the lycra , put the helmet on and ride a bike! You should not be shamed, or hated on or picked on becaues you dont fit what some people think a cyclist should look like.
Far as racing in 2014, Goal is to do 12 cyclocross races, Do my frist cycling road crit, and do a cycling tour ride.
To do all this and to keep my health in order (i.e. purchase needed medications to maintain my diabetes and heart), and to train, eat right, and to keep cycling going (i.e. money for cycling related travel, fees for races, bike parts, repairs and other equipment) it will take money, Thus I turn to you all for help.
